Costume Birthday Party Ideas

Kids love costume parties and dress up parties so why only have them at halloween? Here’s some Costume Birthday Party Ideas that I’ve run across. The great thing about costume birthday parties is that you can make the party as simple or complex as you like. I’ve seen costume birthday parties as simple as this.

Have a kids birthday dress up party. Here’s how this costume birthday party idea worked for me.

First the invitations. Say something like this on the birthday party invitation. “Come as you are but be prepared to be someone else. At Tommy’s bday party, you an choose if you are a pirate, an angel, a transformer, or batman”. Hint – Make sure you have the costumes that you are “advertising. You can use any words on the birthday invitation that you like but you get the idea.

Next the costume for the costume birthday party idea. I keep a chest full of costumes. (I can’t decide if I keep them for a rainy day or because I’m too cheap to throw them away). Through the years, and three kids, there are probably 30 costumes in there. Even though they started out as Halloween costumes the girls were never into scary costumes. So in my chest of costumes, I have lots of girls costumes that can be used for a bday dress up party. I have  cinderella costumes , several princess costumes, a Belle costume, Alice in Wonderland Costume, and a couple of angel costumes.

For  the boys birthday party costumes side I have a Megatron (transformer), two pirate costumes, batman and robin costumes, and of course a barney costume. (I told you these were old costumes. Any way, you get the idea. The plan is to have the kids show up as they are and let them change into costumes to make the birthday party a dress up party.

The next step in this bday costume birthday party ideas is this.  When the kids get to the party, have them choose which costume they would like to dress up. Make sure to resolve any disputes about birthday party costumes. And away you go.

For a girls birthday party, you can turn the whole birthday party into a dress up party. Help the girls with make up and lip stick. (make sure and get the other parents permission first). It never ceased to amaze me how little girls can get so fascinated with finger nail and toe nail polish. This costume birthday party ideas will have to include a girls dress up birthday party. This will work great for a 4 year old bday party, a 6 year old birthday party, and maybe a litte older kids birthday dress up party.

For the boys, when they are dressed up you’ll need some type of birthday party games.

This is a list of birthday quotes for friends that I’ve compiled. Some of these birthday sayings and quotes are funny, some inspirational and some thought provoking. Either way, I hope this list of Birthday Quotes for friends proves useful to you.

I use this list of birthday quotes for friends a couple of ways. First, I use them to print birthday cards. It also seems so impersonal to just print a card (kinda like saying I’m cheap), so I try to personalize any birthday card I give with a special birthday quote or birthday saying. Secondly, I sometimes use birthday quotes as a  birthday greeting over the phone or at a party. It’s pretty easy to memorize some of these birthday quotes and you’ll sound pretty smart – if you can pull it off.

“Grow old along with me the best is yet to be.” – Robert Browning. Okay, this birthday greeting is a little stiff to say at a party but I thnk it fits fine on a birthday card.

“Artificial intelligence is a wonderful thing. I told my computer that today is my birthday, and it said that I needed an upgrade” – Unknown – This one is great for the computer tech birthday.

“Born on Monday, Fair in face; Born on Tuesday, Full of God’s grace; Born on Wednesday, Sour and sad; Born on Thursday, Merry and glad; Born on Friday, Worthily given; Born on Saturday, Work hard for your living; Born on Sunday, You will never know want.” – Unknown – I’ve always said that “unknown” mean it was said by some working stiff that didn’t think to take credit for the great quote. Think about it. Has there ever been an”unknown” quote that was latter attributed to Shakespeare- I don’t think so!!

Do you wonder where to get started? Looking for great party ideas? This short article will help you with some ideas and suggestions on how to create the most memorable party.

Step 1 – Style and Theme

This doesn’t necessarily mean asking guests to arrive in costume and making sure that all the food is a certain shade of blue! However some thought to the style and theme of your party will help you to plan the elements so that the party ideas have a distinct feel to them, one that your guests will remember.

Your party ideas theme will often come from the reason for the party; a birthday, special occasion, celebrating an event, a particular group of people etc. Is there a particular theme that is particularly relevant to the party, or you might wish to allude gently to one. Of course the list of theme ideas is almost endless. Choose something that has relevance to your party ideas, or is a personal favorite. Decide if you are going all out with theme – guests will dress up and everything will be themed, or do you just wish to use the theme as a guide for the planning, giving the party a particular flavor.

Party ideas for style will be to some extent dictated by the theme. Consider how you would like your guests to dress: casual, black tie, costumed; what impression do you want to create e.g. casual, sophisticated, wacky

Step 2 – Food and Drink

Most, if not all party planning will involve food and drink. This can make or break a great party. Do give some thought to the part that food will play at your party – is it the main event, or a side issue to other activities? Food and drink will be influenced by several factors, you will need to consider:

Time of day & duration of the party. Will your guests expect a full meal, a light meal or just nibbles.

Theme and style. How far will these affect the food choices? You may need to research food and drink appropriate to your theme.

Budget. Food and drink expenditure may form the largest part of your budget. Set your budget and divide by the number of guests to give you the amount that you can afford to spend on each person. If your budget is limited, you might consider asking guests to bring their own alcohol drinks, or have a paid bar. Do provide plenty of soft drinks though.

Don’t forget about how your food and drink will be served – a full sit down meal, or buffet style – do you need waiting staff? Who will prepare the food – yourself, caterers, or consider hiring a chef for the day – it can be a lot cheaper than you might think.

Step 3 – Entertainment

Do you wish to provide entertainment for your guests, or just hope that they will all find each other exhilarating company! Of course we all aspire to having the most eclectic and entertaining mixture of party guest who will effortlessly entertain each other! However the reality is that some form of entertainment will be welcomed and can be used as a great starting point for guests to interact with each other.

Think carefully about what you would like your entertainment to achieve. There is a big difference between quiet background music to fill silences at the dinner party, and a wild treasure hunt which has guests working together to locate and retrieve the booty ahead of the other teams.

You can hire professional party entertainment which will fit with your theme and style – a band or small group of musicians can be excellent value for money and they will be far more memorable than your CD collection.

Party games can be a great way to have your guests interacting with each other. Team building and making new friends are best served with team games. Search on the net for plenty of team game ideas, or try the classic Treasure Hunt. Individual entertainment games can be set up to provide amusement and a talking point – look for puzzles and quizzes that are appropriate to your theme.

Don’t be afraid to try something new or adventurous. Your party will be all the more memorable for it. Guests are usually more than happy to try something new and providing it is well organized will have fun!

Step 4 – Invitations

Send invitations in plenty of time. Design them according to your chosen theme and style. It seems obvious, but do make sure that all the party details are clearly stated on the invitation:

Date, time (indication of duration), place, directions if necessary. Make sure you explain what is expected of your guests – costume / dress code, punctuality, what to bring (wine etc).

And make it exciting! Tease them with hints of what you have planned so that your guests will be eager to attend. Ask for a response so that you will know who to expect.

Keep a list of those you have invited, and note responses as you receive them. A week or so before your party, chase up responses not received. You will find it much easier to deal with the catering and final arrangements of you know how many you are expecting to attend.

Step 5 – Be Organized

My way of getting organized is to create a major checklist. Take some large sheets of paper and write down everything that you can think of that will need to be done. Org anise those items into groups according to when they must be done. i.e. 2 months ahead, 1 month ahead, 3 weeks ahead, 2 weeks ahead, 1 week ahead, 3 days, 2 days 1 day, on the day.

Next have a walk through of your party. This is best done at the venue itself. If you are hiring a venue, ask if you can have a half hour there at a quiet time to just go through a few things. If you really cannot do this at the venue, you will have to use your very best imagination.

A walk through should be done from the point of arrival at your party – parking, walking to the front door, being greeted, where to hang their coat, what to do with items being brought, gifts / bottles. What will they see, what will they hear? Then go into the party itself, how will your guest meet other people, find out where to sit / eat / drink / get involved etc etc. You must imagine yourself going through every moment of your party – see it from your guest’s point of view. And make lots of notes about what you will have to do or arrange to make sure that your vision is reality. Add all of these items to your to checklist.

Be disciplined with your checklist. Don’t put anything off – delegate by all means, but do make sure that you check up and keep on target.

Leave as little as possible to the last minute. On the day itself you should be able to relax and enjoy being the best hostess in town.

Here’s my Barbie Birthday Party idea – I hope you enjoy it.

First some background abut how I can up with this birthday party idea. This past weekend, I celebrated my daughters 7th bithday.  As soon as I her 6th birthday party, she announced she had to have a BARBIE TEA PARTY for her 7tht birthday. So,  we had an entire year to prepare for this barbie birthday party idea. .  We started by reading all the  entry on Barbie tea parties that were on this site – BIrthday Blast. We got so many wonderful ideas.

Invitations for Barbie Birthday Party Idea.

Invitations.  - The Barbie invitations started with note cards that I bought in packs  for only $1.00 at Dollar General. I added velum with the words,  ”You’re  invited to Kellys Tea Party” to the the note cards and I tied a bow made of  ribbon.  On the inside, we had this  poem which we got in part from a few of the ideas found on this Birthday Blast. The poem said… WE’VE INVITED A REAL BARBIE TO OUR PARTY, JOIN US AND YOUCAN SEE  JUST HOW MUCH FUN A REAL BARBIE TEA PARTY CAN BE.  PLEASE COME DRESSED IN YOU’RE TEA TIME BEST, WITH JEWELRY , WE’LL PLAY GAMES, EAT SNACKS AND MUCH,  MUCH MORE. WELL COUNT ALL OF OUR TEA CUPS ONE BY ONE, SO PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU’LL JOIN THE FUN. Then I had all the usuall info…address, time, etc..  These had to be  delivered by hand because with the invitation we gave r tea cup (spray painted pink of course) filled with candy in a 6 x 4 white box with e paper shreads. On the outside of the boxes, we put Barbie Tea Party stickers to help  fit with the  theme. Each box was ti with a  ribbon.

Decorations – Party City, if you have one,  carries a BARBIE TEA PARTY theme that we had looked at. Well lucky us,  they discontinued the line about 6 months before my our Barbie  party and everything went on sale.  I bought as many items as I could.  Packs of Barbie stickers, Barbie cookie cutters, Barbie place cards, Barbie yard sign, Barbie banners, you get the idea. For this Barbie Birthday Party Idea, I was e having the party at my house under the patio.  I wanted to transform our pation into a beautiful banquet hall.  We got a helium tank from a local  company (25.00 – was pricey, but it blew up over 100 balloons). Party  t Party City  we got for 59 cents,  table cloths in lavender, pink and yellow and we hung them from the ceiling to form a draping effect.  We hung istars from the ceiling also.

We rented child’s  tables  and I bought 16 white child’s sized \ chairs when they went on clearance at the end of last summer.  ($1.00 each)  I found at  for only $1.00 a yard, bright pink satin that I used for my table cloth.  I found, again on clearance, white  linen napkins. Ny now youre getting the idea that for this birthday party idea, we went all out!!
